At Angliss Neighbourhood House we work with the community in ways that foster mutual respect and cooperation, building and strengthening relationships across boundaries of culture, class, experience and age to promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes in our neighbourhood.
Our community events and activities aim to bring the Angliss community together to foster social connections that can mitigate the risks of social isolation and increase participation.
While many residents have lived here for decades, others are new to the suburb. As Footscray changes demographically, community-wide activities that promote intercultural understanding and social inclusion become even more important. Often our events are aimed at young families and children, but they are also designed to create opportunities for intergenerational engagement, supporting all residents to access culturally-safe and socially-inclusive activities. Parents and carers accessing our neighbourhood house consistently highlight the importance and value of meeting neighbours and feeling connected in a busy and often alienating world.
Bringing people together in a relaxed and welcoming way also helps us to better connect people with any services and resources they may need to feel more supported and more able to fully participate in community life. Our emphasis is on fostering meaningful and sustainable community relationships that underpin civic engagement and increase positive social outcomes for all residents.
Through our adult, community and further education programs, our priority is to achieve the best outcomes for our learners. We provide learning opportunities in line with relevant legislation, contract requirements and service guidelines, tailored to our community members’ specific educational, social and wellbeing needs.
Come in and say hello and find out how you can be involved!
